Mourinho weighing up January move for Carvalho

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a January move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

The Portuguese star, who represented his country at Euro 2016, has been linked with United in the past and has been linked with moves to both Everton and Chelsea as recently as this summer.

United have struggled to fill the defensive midfield role in recent years with Bastian Schweinsteiger out of favour with Jose Mourinho as is seemingly Morgan Schneiderlin.

Question marks still continue to be raised over the suitability of both Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind and the inexperience of Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Carvalho, 24, only recently signed a contract extension with Sporting and is currently under contract until 2020 and reports suggest his new contract included a £35 million release clause.

Italian publication, Calciomercato, are reporting that Jose Mourinho will make his move when the transfer window opens in January.

Is William Carvalho the answer to the troublesome defensive midfield role at Old Trafford? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Mourinho targets experienced central defender

Jose Mourinho is thought to be looking to continue his spending this summer, and is keen to add an experienced central defender to his ranks after the impending arrival of Paul Pogba to Old Trafford for a world record fee.

Mourinho has already signed a center-back this summer, bringing Ivorian defender Eric Bailly to the club for a fee in the region of£30m. However, the only other central defensive options at Mourinho’s disposal that have already made first team appearances at Old Trafford are Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Chris Smalling.

Phil Jones has struggled in his time at United due to a number of injury lay-offs, meanwhile it is believed among many that Dutch international Blind is not suited to the position in what is  a very tough and physical Premier League.

There have also been doubts on whether Marcos Rojo has the quality to partner Chris Smalling, who is likely to begin the season as Mourinho’s first choice centre-back after impressive performances in United’s previous campaign.

Jose Fonte, Ezequiel Garay and Kostas Manolas have been touted as possible signings that could be possible for Mourinho, all three regarded as experienced defenders.

Fonte, 32, has just come of the back of Euro success with Portugal, and is a proven Premier League defender having lead Southampton to another top ten finish last season, which may be what Mourinho is looking for in his pursuit. However, ex Southampton manager and new Everton boss Ronald Koeman is keen to be reunited with the Portuguese and has reportedly bid £9m for the European Championship winner.

Argentinian Garay is another option for Mourinho, currently playing for Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia having had spells at Real Madrid and Benfica. The Argentinian international has 32 international caps and regarded highly around Europe, but it is still questionable whether Garay could adapt to the Premier League, having been linked with United on previous occasions.

Greek defender Kostas Manolas has also been linked to United throughout the summer with Chelsea and Arsenal also said to be interested in the Roma defender. His pace and power are assets suited well to the Premier League, however it is said United would have to pay upwards of £40m to get their man.

United set to add Brentford Midfielder Joshua Bohui to youth setup

Manchester United are close to signing Brentford’s teenage midfielder Joshua Bohui.

The 17-year-old who can also play as a striker has been training in Carrington and will join up with Manchester United’s Under-18’s next season.

Bohui is a product of the Afewee Academy run by volunteers in Brixton, which also helped develop Liverpool and England right-back Nathaniel Clyne.

Bohui has represented England’s U-17’s and was part of Steve Cooper’s squad in Azerbaijan in May. He was set to be a second year scholar with Brentford, but has now decided to make the move to United.

Jose Mourinho has taken a host of youngsters with him to the club’s pre-season tour of China and with the Portuguese looking to change perceptions at Old Trafford, Bohui will be hopeful of catching his eye in the coming months.

Nine Academy graduates arrived in Shanghai on Wednesday morning ahead of the two International Cup games in the far East against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City.

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who is yet to make a competitive first-team appearance, but has been on several pre-season tours, is joined by Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Paddy McNair, Axel Tuanzebe, Andreas Pereira, Jese Lingard, Adnan Januzaj, Will Keane and Marcus Rashford in making the trip.

Joshua Bohui will stay in Manchester and may be used by Warren Joyce’s title-winning squad, joining the likes of Matty Willock in preparing for pre-season friendlies against Altrincham on Friday and Salford City at Moor Lane next Tuesday.

United eyeing £25million Fabinho

Manchester United have asked to be kept informed about Monaco’s Brazilian right back, Fabinho. United have been interested in Fabinho, 22, for some time and have remained in contact with the Monaco hierarchy since last year. Monaco have told Fabinho that they will allow him to leave the French club this summer.

Manchester City and Napoli are also interested in the Brazilian right back with Napoli failing in a £12million bid earlier this month with Monaco stating that the player was worth £25million.

United remain interested in signing a right back this season with current right back, Matteo Darmian, struggling with consistency last season. United are yet to find a player who is truly capable of filling the boots of Gary Neville at right back since Neville’s retirement 5 years ago.

Darmian began his United career full of confidence, winning the player of the month award for August, and showed why United had spent nearly £13million on him from Torino. But after a number of  injuries, and a loss of faith shown in him from Louis Van Gaal, his performances suffered.

Jose Mourinho may still see Darmian as his number 1 right back this season but many have played in the right back spot before him including Rafael, Phil Jones, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Guillermo Varela who have all failed to convince of their quality or suitability in the role. So is Fabinho the man to finally fulfil United’s troublesome right back spot?

Villarreal line up Rojo Loan

Spanish side Villarreal are lining up a potential loan move for defender Marcos Rojo. Villarreal are looking for defensive cover after selling Eric Bailly to United earlier in the summer and are preparing to lose Mateo Musacchio to AC Milan.

The Argentina international, 26, is one of the players Jose Mourinho is considering letting go this summer with the arrival of Bailly and the return to fitness of Luke Shaw.

Louis Van Gaal signed Marcos Rojo for £16million in 2014 from Sporting Lisbon. But he has struggled to tie down a regular first team spot and made just 15 Premier League starts last season.

Rojo’s season was disrupted by a shoulder injury which saw him miss almost 3 months of the campaign. However upon his return to the team he never looked fully fit, lacked confidence during games and was unable to produce the performances needed to please fans and seemingly Jose Mourinho.

A move away from Old Trafford may well be what Rojo needs to kick start his career again after a fairly unsuccessful 2 years at United. Many fans want a permanent transfer but may have to settle with a loan move at this stage.

Negotiations begin for £100m Paul Pogba

Manchester United have begun negotiations within the last 48 hours for French international Paul Pogba, according to Sky Sports, which is believed to be for a world record fee.

Jose Mourinho is keen to make the Juventus midfielder his fourth addition of the summer, and with Pogba’s agent being Mino Raiola, who United have successfully had neogitations with twice already this summer, there is a growing confidence at Old Trafford that the deal could be done.

The Juventus star may not be interested in a move back to Old Trafford

However, Juventus have made it clear to United that Pogba is not for sale, despite a  £100m offer may being too tempting to turn down. It is still unclear whether the France international, who left United in 2012 on a free transfer, would be interested in a return to his former club. There is no doubting United’s desire to bring their former player to Old Trafford, and they certaintly have the funds to to pull what would be the world’s largest transfer ever off.

Real Madrid still confident in signing Pogba

Real Madrid are the main threats to United in the chase for the Juve midfielder and have also held talks with Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola. Raiola has been quoted previously as saying that a move to the Bernabeu would be a good move for his client as it will be key in his clients ambition to win the Balon’dor. Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane and president Florentino Perez are still confident the midfielder wants to move to the club, however United may offer the money for Pogba that Real can not compete with.

What do you think of the potential signing of Paul Pogba? Would he be a good addition to the side, even for a world record fee? Leave a comment down below.

United set to sign Hirving Lozano after Olympics

Pachuca forward Hirving Lozano will join Manchester United after the Olympics, according to his father-in law.

United have scouted the 20-year-old Mexico forward in recent months and Pachuca’s vice president has claimed that the club is in talks to sign Lozano, nicknamed “Chucky” in his homeland.

Now Lozano’s father in law has claimed the Mexico international will head to Manchester after El Tri defend their gold medal at the Rio Olympics.

Speaking to Futbol Entre Lineas,  Lozano’s father in law said:

“Yes. It is all done, just missing some details and after the Olympics, the deal will be official.”

He added that two weeks ago he had contacted relatives living in London for information on how to open a bank account in the UK.

Lozano featured in Copa America

Lozano has won seven caps for Mexico and made four appearances in last month’s Copa America, where they were thrashed 7-0 by eventual winners Chile.

United’s chief scout Jim Lawlor had been, who had unearthed Javier Hernandez, had being reportedly monitoring Lozano, as well as his team mates Erick Guitierez and Rodolfo Pizarro.

Lawlor extensively scouted Hernandez six years ago before he helped United complete a £6 Million pound deal for the then Chivas Guadalajara striker.

Hernandez scored 59 goals for United in 157 appearances and won two Premier League titles before he was sold to Bayern Leverkusen by Louis Van Gaal last season.

Is Zlatan the Spark for Dominance?

With the arrival of Zlatan being confirmed today via his Instagram post a lot of parallels have been made of the signing, before even kicking a ball, to another enigmatic striker in one, Eric Cantona.

Now to say that he’d reach the same levels as King Eric would be a tall order indeed but they could share one thing in common when their United career is written. And that is that they may be seen as being the difference in the first league title in a baron time.

So let’s look at the stats; last season Zlatan scored in all competitions, 38 goals and had 13 assists which is not only impressive in its own merit but, when I tell you that United as a squad scored 49 goals last season.

Now, I can already hear you say, “But John that’s in Ligue 1, anyone can score in that league.” That is a debate for another day. The Swedish talisman has scored 302 league goals in his career and he’ll be among the goals next year.

Zlatan has unwavering confidence

So what does he bring? Not only goals but what I think will be most important for United is that not only will he be able to bring experience to the forward line while passing on knowledge to Wilson/Rashford and others, the main threat he’ll bring is his unwavering confidence he has in himself and what he’ll instill in to this team.

Since Sir Alex left the question can be asked who’s embodied that ‘Never say die’ attitude and show the world why we’re called the Devils. He is arrogant but he has so far showed the world why with his ability and a trophy cabinet many could only dream of.

In Zlatan we have a man who can be the missing spark we need to start a new dawn of dominance for the Red Devils which Cantona did before him. He has always had questions put against him his whole career and he’s always answered his critics. And they’ll mount again until the start of the season, so for now, over to you Zlatan.

United open talks for Pogba

Manchester United are set for a sensational swoop for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, according to reports by AS.

The Spanish newspaper claim United have began talks with Juventus over a £97.5million deal. The massive transfer fee would be a world record fee for a player, dwarfing Gareth Bales move to Real Madrid in 2013 for £85.3million.

Real Madrid are also known to be interested in Pogba, 23, but have balked at the commission demanded by his agent Mino Raiola, thought to be £19million. Real will not pursue the Frenchman due to the rise in his valuation and are known to not be keen on being dragged into a bidding war with United.

This has given Mourinho and United the freedom to begin talks with the Turin based club. Jose Mourinho is more than willing to spend more than half of his transfer kitty on Pogba with United willing to offer him £187,000-a-week contract, worth £9.75m a season.

Pogba would thrive in the Premier League

Pogba is arguably the best central midfield player in the world and would add much needed quality to the United midfield. The 23-year-old would add the commanding presence missing since the days of Roy Keane. The powerful Frenchman also has the technical quality and range of passing currently missing in the United engine room.

The former United player is exactly the type of player who would continue to thrive in The Premier League. He has a great eye for goal and can play the killer pass to open up defences. One of Pogba’s greatest assets is his ability to pick the ball up from deep and run with the ball, quickly turning defence into attack.

The signing of Paul Pogba would make the world of football stop and listen. It would be Mourinho’s way of saying “Im back.” United have struggled since Sir Alex Ferguson left but with Mourinho now at the helm and signing proven, world class players it wont be long before United are back amongst Europe’s Elite once more.

Mourinho to target Aaron Ramsey if Mkhitaryan deal falls through

Jose Mourinho will look to get under skin of rival Arsene Wenger by launching a bid for £50m rated playmaker Aaron Ramsey if the deal for Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan falls through.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey has been a star for Wales during the Euro’s and Jose Mourinho wants him to become United’s answer to Frank Lampard during his time at Chelsea.

Despite the rumour, Mourinho’s primary target is Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan but the Bundesliga club are adamant that they are not willing to sell another top player after both Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan have moved on to Bayern Munich and Manchester City respectively.
