Feyenoord vs Manchester United – Player ratings

A dull and lackluster performance was on display in Rotterdam after Mourinho named a strong and experienced line up in his first Europa League clash against Feyenoord, ultimately seeing The Red Devils lose 1-0.

The disappointing shift in form by the United players will pose many questions, i.e. who will start against Watford this Sunday?

De Gea – 6.5/10
Not much work to do for the United keeper, but an unorganized defense allowed one to get past him.

Bailly – 6.5/10
Solid and confident as usual, took a worrying knock to the knee early in the 1st half but managed the full game.

Smalling 6/10
A reliable performance, but nervous at times, his lack of game time showed. Was caught out of position during Feyenoord’s goal.

Rojo 5/10
Showed good energy and enthusiasm but poor decision making going forward, left exposed at the back.

Darmian 5/10
Positive 1st half but didn’t offer much going forward, his crosses weren’t effective and made too many defensive errors. It’s clear why Mourinho pick’s Valencia over Darmian.

Schneiderlin 5/10
Was no where to be found, played too deep, didn’t offer the rest of the midfield much support and often passed in to crowded areas. Showed little effort to get involved.

Pogba 6.5/10
Worked hard and got stuck in but often left frustrated. Saw a lot of the ball but his performance didn’t match his talent.

Herrera 7.5/10
United’s best performing player. Worked hard on and off the ball, maintained possession and passed well. His performance grants another start.

Mata 6.5/10
Had a good 1st half, showed signs of creativity and spark, distributed well but just couldn’t make something happen. Subbed in 2nd half.

Martial 6/10
It didn’t look Martial’s usual style and performance, got into good positions and found the right spaces but not enough to find a shot. Subbed in 2nd half.

Rashford 5.5/10
Didn’t get enough of the ball Didn’t find the spaces or the room to move. Was kept tight by the defence. Subbed in 2nd half.

Young 6/10
Soft on the ball, but offered a little more flair than Mata. Skied a sitter from 6 yards.

Zlatan Ibrahimovich 6/10
Not enough time to find the net, inspired the team slightly, linked up nicely with Pogba.

Memphis Depay 6/10
Good spark of much needed pace and creativity, got into some decent shooting positions but couldn’t get it right with the boot.

Chong set to sign for United

With the 2015/16 season drawing ever closer to its conclusion we can expect to see a sudden rise in transfer rumours once again. And the subject of this particular transfer rumour is Feyenoord wonderkid Tahith Chong.

It has been reported by the Daily Mail that talks are at an advanced stage and a deal is expected to be completed for the 16 year old in the coming days.

United are said to have seen off competition from other Premier League clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea for Chong’s signature.

Feyenoord did try their best to keep hold of the youngster but the emergence of United’s youth players such as Marcus Rashford, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson appears to have given some encouragement to Chong.

Tahith Chong’s favoured position is on the left wing where he plays most of his football, but he can also play anywhere across the attacking front line, making him the type of versatile player Louis Van Gaal prefers.

As there has been no word about this transfer from either club, we should take this rumour lightly as we have seen reports like this on many occasions and nothing has come of it, leaving us all bitterly disappointed!
