Depay wants to prove worth to Jose

Memphis Depay is eager to prove his worth to Jose Mourinho after the United boss told him he believes in him both publicly and in private.

Memphis has far from lived up to his £25million price tag during his time at Old Trafford. Memphis arrived from PSV at the start of last season after scoring 22 goals in the Eredivise but has suffered with poor form and inconsistent performances.

Memphis stated that United is his dream club but has admitted he wants to be playing more.

“Things are going well on the training pitch.

“I am fresh and fit. Mourinho is a great coach. He has told me he believes in me, both in person, but also publicly.

“I would rather not talk about last season. That is something of the past. I should have performed better. Being a fringe player is not the role I want.

“I am not happy just because I play for Manchester United. This is my dream club, but I still want to play.

“It is difficult that I am not always part of the match squad [at United], I feel like a loaded gun. I am ready to play, but I have to wait for my chance.”

Mourinho is yet to give Memphis his chance this season with Mourinho handing him just 1 start and making 4 substitute appearances across all competitions.

Tell us what you think about Memphis Depay and his career at United so far. Do you think he will prove a success or will he be sold next year?

Memphis Depay, It’s now or never

There can be no doubt that Memphis Depay hasn’t exactly had the best of debut seasons, in fact let’s be honest here, he has been a massive let down. Inconsistent performance’s followed by images of Rolls Royce’s have played its part in the Dutchman’s downfall as last season went by, leading to speculation that he may be heading towards the Old Trafford exit door.

However with the arrival of Jose Mourinho, there could be hope yet in Memphis’ Manchester United career, a second chance if you will, for him to save himself.

It could be argued that former head coach Louis Van Gaal’s ruthless decisions and defensive tactics played a role in the star’s disappointing debut campaign. One mistake, it seemed, and you were out of his starting eleven for the upcoming games. There was no sentiment shown, you were out the starting eleven and that was that. For Memphis this became a real issue, there was no real opportunity for him to go out and express himself and be given a real proper go in the first team.

The overwhelming feeling of disappointment surrounding Memphis has made us actually forget just how potentially good of a player he can be. We have already seen glimpses of his talent and I am not talking about his days for PSV. A superb individual performance against FC Midtjylland was followed up by an impressive performance against Arsenal at Old Trafford, where Memphis outrageously preformed a rainbow flick! Other notable moments mainly came in Europe, in particular a stunning finish against his former club PSV Eindhoven being the main highlight.

The arrival of Jose Mourinho could be just exactly what Memphis needs. Mourinho is no fool and will be fully aware of the talent Memphis has in those footballing boots, it may just be a case of putting an arm round him and reassuring him he will be given a proper run of games to express himself. If this happens then I see no reason why Memphis cannot go and become one of our most important players for not just next season, but many seasons to come.

Memphis Depay and Sadio Mane swap deal

Manchester United are ready to offer Memphis Depay to Southampton, in a bid to sign Sadio Mane according to reports.

The Dutchman has failed to hit the ground running at Old Trafford following his £25 Million pound move from PSV last summer.

Memphis 22, hasn’t scored a league goal for the club since November and has more often than not found himself sitting on the substitutes bench.

It’s reported that the winger has already held showdown talks with head coach Louis Van Gaal over his future and according to the Daily Star, United are ready to let him leave in the transfer window.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is said to be a huge fan of Memphis and is keen to make a move for the winger sooner rather than later, with Memphis already attracting interest from the likes of Liverpool and Paris Saint German.

Mane has been on United’s radar for some time now and remains on the club’s wish list as they look to bring in a host of fresh talent this summer.

Memphis: ‘I am on the right track’

United number 7, Memphis Depay, believes he is on the right track after his highly applauded performance in the 2nd leg Europa League tie against Midtjylland.

The winger, who signed from PSV Eindhoven in the summer, scored United’s 5th goal and won a penalty which was converted by Herrera in their most recent game, against Midtjylland.

However, we have seen brilliance from him already this season when he scored two goals against FC Brugge in the Champions League qualifying round. Since then he has failed to live up to his price tag only scoring a handful of goals and struggling to maintain a spot in the starting eleven.

However, Memphis has shown steady progress in his last two games for United. Against Shrewsbury Town he struggled in the first half but in the second half he was much more focused. His take-on’s were more successful with shots that we’re actually on target. And he also linked up well with players around him with some neat one touch passing. You could see he was growing into the game and finding some rhythm.

The positive second half performance against Shrewsbury Town clearly restored some self-confidence and self-belief as he gave a man of the match worthy performance in the following game (and United’s most recent game) against Midtjylland. He oozed confidence as he ran at defenders, beat them, played in some decent crosses, hit shots that were on target and we even saw flashes of skill. The goal he scored at the end of the game capped off a fine performance.

Memphis recently spoke with Fox Sports and had this to say:

I am very happy with my goal and I am on the right track. I am still working very hard to improve each day.

This is a great feeling. We had to make amends for last week’s defeat.

We knew what we had to do and it is always a good feeling to be able to look at the scoreboard at the end and see we set the record straight.

I think that we were clearly enjoying ourselves on the pitch. We all worked hard for each other and that is the most important thing for me then we can also shine individually.

Memphis given warning

Under performing Memphis Depay receives warning from boss Louis van Gaal.

Following his arrival in the summer, Memphis had a bright start to his Manchester United career, scoring two against FC Bruges, one against former club PSV and one away at Sunderland.

However, in recent weeks the 21 year old has struggled to live up to his own and the fans’ expectations.

This has led to the former Eredivisie star receiving a warning from manager Louis van Gaal with the boss saying that Memphis could suffer the same fate as former United stars Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao.

Louis van Gaal had this to say:

Ryan has already given advice to him but the player is responsible for his own deeds,

You have to give respect to your team philosophy.
