Adnan Januzaj – Could He Be The Man To Answer LVG’s SOS?

Adnan Januzaj…remember him? You know, the 20-year-old Belgian wonderkid. Yes, of course you do. Well, he’s back, and ready to answer Louis Van Gaal’s SOS (Save Our Season).

It’s been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for Adnan Januzaj since he broke into the first team squad in 2013. An unused substitute in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final game for the club, the youngster became the one major plus point of David Moyes’ ill-fated reign the season following, with some even claiming that he could be the new Cristiano Ronaldo (well, that was me). However, it is fair to say that since Louis Van Gaal took over at the club his progress has been, well, mooted at best.

Used sparingly during Van Gaal’s first season in charge, Januzaj actually began this campaign by starting four of the opening five fixtures, scoring the winner against Aston Villa in the second game of the season. However, after a disappointing 45 minutes against Club Brugge in the Champions League Second Leg Qualifier, LVG decided to let the club’s new number 11 leave on loan and he headed to Germany to join Borussia Dortmund (despite much Premier League interest). Later, Van Gaal admitted that he would have preferred it if Januzaj had stayed in England, hinting that had he joined a ‘lesser club’, his opportunities may have been more frequent. As it turns out, on this occasion, he was right.

It is fair to say that Januzaj’s time in Dortmund has been a disaster. With only three starts, all of which came in the Europa League, United have made a collective decision that recalling the attacker would be the best option, and it could prove to be a timely addition. After all, Januzaj is a favourite amongst the fans having risen through the ranks and it is no secret that the club likes to see ‘one of their own’ go on to achieve success.

Januzaj can be one of those frustrating figures. It is plain to see that he has bags of potential, potential that could see him turn into a truly great player if he is nurtured right. Arguably, LVG halted that progress last season with his reluctance to utilise him. However, it is no secret that attacking options are at an all-time low right now, with Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney the only experienced attackers in the squad. Currently, Juan Mata is the man preferred on the right wing, with Martial on the left and Rooney playing down the middle. Mata, in my humble opinion, is wasted on the right with a lack of pace and a natural instinct that often sees him drift towards the middle. Januzaj, however, on the right wing, coupled with Marital on the left, would offer pace on both flanks.

Currently, United have scored only 24 league goals in 20 games. Januzaj may not score bags of goals (although he can certainly chip in), but he can create. I, for one, applaud the decision to bring him back to the club. I only hope that he is given the opportunity to elevate himself and this weekends game against Sheffield United could be the perfect stepping stone.

Man United in for Basel wonder kid Breel Embolo

Manchester united are reportedly keen to spend big money on another striker in the form of FC Basel’s wonder kid Breel Embolo.

Twenty times Premier league champions Manchester united have joined the race to sign FC Basel starlet Breel Embolo and have started scouting him. Manchester United chief Scout Peter Braund was at the Europa league game between FC Basel and Fiorentina on this Thursday.

The 18-year-old Swiss striker Breel Embolo made his Basel debut in March 2014 but since then he has scored 26 goals and has 18 assists in his bag. La Liga Champions Barcelona are also monitoring the youngster along with Serie A champions Juventus and FA cup winners Arsenal.

Breel Embolo is regarded as one of the best young strikers in Europe and Manchester united have to spend very big if they want sign him. Barcelona also willing to strengthen their young strike force after some poor performance by their young striker Munir El haddadi. So they could give united a tough challenge in signing Swiss striker.

Signing Of Anthony Martial has proved that Manchester united boss Louis Van Gaal will not hesitate in spending big if he is really interested in any player whatever be the player’s age and experience.

Along with Breel Embolo, Manchester united have also reportedly been scouting Fiorentina midfielder Borja Valero and there are strong rumours that Former Manchester united No. 7 Cristiano Ronaldo could return to old Trafford this January. So, it would be interesting to see who will join the red devils at the end of this January transfer window.

Paul Scholes: Manchester United are a defending team

Former Manchester united midfielder Paul Scholes does not believe that his old club have enough quality up front to be a big force in European football this season. He thinks that Manchester united are just a defending team with no real attacking threat.

Ex-Manchester united star Paul Scholes has already expressed his opinion on the current team and United boss, Louis van Gaal, a few days ago. But he spoke again when United managed to secure only one point in the UEFA Champions league group stage match against PSV Eindhoven this week.

Paul Scholes has criticized Manchester united for their performance in the 0-0 draw with PSV Eindhoven. Scholes told BT sport Europe, “There’s a real lack of quality in the final third.” He added, “You can defend as well as you want but if you don’t have the forward players who can create a bit of magic now and again then I think you’re going to struggle and you have to win your home games in Europe.”

By saying this he has questioned Manchester united forwards’ ability and intentions. He compared Anthony martial with Michael Owen and Lineker and also commented that martial just likes to drift to the left wing instead of looking for goals.

Paul Scholes compared the red devils with two giants in European Football. He said, “You look at these teams across Europe, your Barcas and your Bayerns. It’s your forwards that make the difference.”

After the PSV Eindhoven draw, Manchester united stands second in group B of the UEFA Champions League group stage. United must secure three points in final away game vs Wolfsburg to qualify for the last 16, depending on the result in the other match between CSKA and PSV.

The former Red devils midfielder has a lot of criticism for united players as well as coach. Many fans will believe he has earned the right to say anything about this club, as they know he will mean well. But what do you have to say on his comments? Do you agree with Paul Scholes that we should look for another striker this January? Do you think we are strong enough to achieve trophies with this squad? Martial injury update

France International team Coach Didier Deschamps gave updates about Anthony martial’s injury which he picked up during Tuesday’s friendly match against England.

Anthony martial picked up a foot injury on Tuesday’s emotional friendly match between England and France, which France lost by 2-0. He forced two good saves out of Joe hart and Jack Butland before being substituted for Antoine Griezmann on 67 minutes.

There were several rumours about Martial’s injury in various newspapers. Some newspapers claimed that his injury was not serious and that he will be back for the Watford game. But the real status of injury is yet to be known.

Martial left the stadium on crutches. He was having some difficulty when he was substituted. The France manager said that he was in quite a bit of pain. According to him, it’s just a knock on Martial’s foot. Martial got a kick in the penalty area and from then on, he was in a bit of pain.

Meanwhile, Martial’s wife Samantha Martial has posted on her Instagram account that martial has no injury. Manchester united fans would be delighted if that’s the case. All ears to Van Gaal now for the pre-match conference on Friday. He may also provide an injury update on 34 year old defensive midfielder Michael Carrick.

What do you think of martial’s presence on the field on the field for reds ? Let us know in the comments below.

CSKA Moscow 1-1 Manchester United | Match Report

Manchester United make life difficult for themselves in the Champions League group stage after a lackluster performance results in a 1-1 draw at CSKA Moscow.

Despite dominating possession for the majority of the first half, United struggled to find a way through the CSKA stronghold in what was always expected to be a tough game,

It was CSKA Moscow who drew first blood when, against the run of play, a handball in the Manchester United box from Anthony Martial in the 15th minute, resulted in a penalty. The penalty, taken by Eremenko, was saved by David de Gea but Doumbia was quickest to react and converted the rebound to put the home side 1-0 ahead.

The second half brought a slight improvement with Manchester United continuing to control the game and creating a few chances.

On 59 minutes, a Herrera cross found Rooney who headed straight at the keeper and on 62 minutes the CSKA keeper made easy work of a weak, in-step, Lingard shot.

With these two chances coming within a couple of minutes of each other you sensed a goal was coming. And it did, with Anthony Martial making amends for his handball incident. On 64 minutes, Ander Herrera played a clever through ball into the path of Antonio Valencia who hit a first time cross into the box. The cross was fractionally too high for Rooney but Anthony Martial was behind and with a fantastic diving header arrowing the ball past the keeper and in off the far post.

The game continued with Manchester United trying without success to get a winner. CSKA Moscow seemed to persistently outnumber United by two or three to one with their constant pressing and plugging of any gaps.

If United are going to progress through the group stage they will need to find a way of breaking teams down and quick.

As it stands, Manchester United now sit 2nd, two points behind VfL Wolfsburg with the group still very much open after 3 games.
