Breaking news has just broken from the Portuguese press that Ronaldo has decided to quit Real Madrid and leave Spain following the tax fraud allegations.
The front page of A Bola, a Portuguese newspaper have reported that Ronaldo is ‘indignant’ regarding the tax prosecution held against him.
The allegation is related to him not paying tax on his image rights between 2011 and 2014, using one of his businesses to hide the tax. The amount of tax the ‘prosecutors’ are claiming has been avoided is €14.7mil (£13mil).
Ronaldo is currently training in Portugal with the National team ahead of the Confederations Cup and was asked about the allegations. He responded, ‘I have a clear conscious’.
Real Madrid’s Statement on Ronaldo’s Tax Allegations:
‘Real Madrid C.F have full confidence in our player Cristiano Ronaldo, who we understand has acted in accordance with legality regarding the fulfilment of his fiscal obligations.
‘Since his arrival at Real Madrid C.F in July 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo has always shown a clear will to fulfil all his tax obligations.
‘Real Madrid C.F. are absolutely convinced that our player Cristiano Ronaldo will prove his total innocence in this process.
‘Real Madrid C.F. hope that justice is done as quickly as possible so that his innocence can be proven as soon as possible.’
However, so angered by the charges; Ronaldo has reportedly spoken to Florentino Perez and has told him he wants to leave Spanish football and that his decision to leave Real Madrid is ‘irreversible’.
This has obviously put Manchester United and PSG on red alert of his services but it would still take a world record bid to prize Real Madrid’s star asset away from the club. The early figures reported suggest €180mil for the player as Ronaldo has recently signed a new 5 year deal of £365,000/week taking him to 2022. Considering this is the same wage we have reportedly offered Morata, there’d little in the way of personal terms to stop the deal to Manchester United, it’d just be agreeing a fee with Real Madrid. Which as we know is no mean feat!
This is exciting news none the less. Further developments to follow.
How much would you be willing to spend to bring him back to Old Trafford?
