Bale Will Wait to Lift His First La Liga Trophy

Gareth Bale has already been heavily linked in a big money move to Manchester United this summer. There are a lot of signals in the media and previous interviews that this move is not on. However, I still think this transfer has legs.

The Story So Far

Bale was linked to Man Utd before they even won the Europa League. Rumours suggested that there was a verbal agreement between the clubs and player that if Man Utd qualified for Champions League, Bale would return to the UK to wear the Famous Utd Red Jersey. Obviously Man Utd won the Final against Ajax and subsequently qualified for Europe’s elite competition.

It was then reported that Bale was growing frustrated with the lack of playing time at Real Madrid, as he was being overlooked from Zidane who favoured Isco. Gareth then allegedly told his agent that if he wasn’t starting the Champions League final in his home City, that his agent had his permission to arrange a move to another club, preferably Manchester United.

Within a week of the Champions League final, just after Man Utd won the Europa League Bale ‘admits’ he’s not 100% fit for the final which is a complete change of tune from the player. However, as we know from the Griezmann deal, nothing is ever as it seems and there’s always murky water when it comes to high profile transfers. So many twists and turns. However, there was an additional twist which no one had considered, not even Bale.

A Potential Twist in the Saga.

After Real Madrid beat Malaga 2-0 away to win La Liga; Ronaldo, Modric and Bale were all expecting to lift the trophy as league champions. To their dismay, that was no longer the case. Real Madrid must wait until the opening weekend of NEXT season to lift the trophy. A trophy that Gareth Bale is yet to get his hands on since his big money move to Real Madrid.

Since then, the transfer speculation of Bale to Manchester United has gone cold. Bale has since won the Champions league saying he wants to remain at the Spanish club to lift more silverware. Could he just be waiting to lift the league title at the start of next season and is merely stalling the transfer? If he was to move away from Real Madrid in the meantime, he will not get his hands on the La Liga Trophy and may never get his hands on it in the future.

Bale will lift the trophy on 11 Aug 2017 in the opening weekend of La Liga. Obviously the transfer window will still be open in August. Could Bale make a spectacular transfer late in this summer’s window? It would mean we won’t have him before the start of the season, or for the Super-Cup match against Real Madrid.

I don’t think anyone could blame Bale for wanting to stay and lift the trophy as he’s spent the last 4 seasons trying to win it. It’s just unfortunate for Man Utd that because of a bizarre rule in La Liga that we will have to wait to complete the possible transfer later than we’d ideally want him.

Would you want Bale even if it meant a late transfer this summer? Tempting….
