Is Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s talent being wasted?

United starlet Timothy Fosu-Mensah was the subject of much conversation when the team sheet was released ahead of the FA Cup game against Blackburn yesterday afternoon.

Prior to the match, many United fans, myself included, had hoped and expected that Fosu-Mensah would start or at the very least be named in the match day squad.

Instead Jose Mourinho opted to use out-of-favour right-back Matteo Darmian at left back and an ageing Ashley Young at right-back.

Here are some reactions to Timothy’s omission from the squad:

It wasn’t just yesterday’s game though. Fosu has barely featured at all this season. He has made zero appearances in the Premier League and just a handful of substitute appearances across cup competitions.

With Jose preferring to use Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian, it makes you wonder if he actually rates Fosu at all.

I also take issue with Jose’s comments at the beginning of the season where he suggested that Timothy would be used as a back-up to Valencia at right-back. He is much more effective centrally, as we seen so often last season.

So what’s the deal here? He’s named as a back-up to Valencia yet others are continuously picked ahead of him. He was superb centrally yet told he’ll be back up to right-back.

If you ask me I don’t think Jose rates him at all. Sure, he’s signed a new contract but we all know that means nothing in this day and age.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah is a huge talent wasting away week-in, week-out. And, with midfield and defensive reinforcements likely to arrive in the summer I seriously fear for Fosu’s future.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see him go out on loan next season and to be honest, I would be happy for him to go. He’s not going to improve sitting on the bench.

I would love to know what you think. Do you also fear for Fosu’s future? Do you think he should be loaned out next season? Let me know in the comments below.

I feel that most if the youth players / u21s will struggle. United are a team that now demand trophies no matter what. I would love to see Fosu, Perriera,… Read more »
